CHANNINGS (4 STAR)
Overlooking Learmonth Gardens, this boutique hotel housed in a row of Victorian townhouses, one of which was the home of explorer Ernest Shackleton, is 1.2 miles from Haymarket train station and 1.6 miles from Murrayfield Golf Course.

OLD WAVERLY HOTEL (3 STAR)
Opposite Princes Gardens, this hotel built in 1848 is a 5-minute walk from Waverley station and a 7-minute walk from the Royal Mile.
Traditionally styled rooms have flat-screen TVs, free WiFi and tea and coffeemaking equipment. Suites add more space and some have views over the city.

A 1-minute walk from the Royal Mile, this modern apartment hotel is also a 4-minute walk from Holyrood Park.
